Epigenetic Mechanisms

Epigenetics are inheritance mechanisms that lie outside the DNA sequence of our genes.

  • DNA methylation - usually associated with 5-methylcytosine (m5C), leads to transcriptional silencing in vertebrates.
  • Modification of nucleosomal histones.
