Human Embryo Head Region (Week 8, Carnegie Stage 22)

Section through the Week 8 human embryo oral cavity, temporal cartilage, middle and inner ear and brain stem.

Superimposed measurements of different structures within the stage 22 embryo head. Compare these sizes with those seen in the feral, newborn and adult head.

  • Oral cavity - midline tongue, unfused palatal shelves.
  • Temporal cartilage - not yet ossified
