Introduction
This help page shows step by step (4 steps) how to make your own URL link to a specific region within a virtual slide image.
This guide assumes that you have already identified a virtual slide region of interest (ROI) and that you are viewing the slide using the Desktop link, either by clicking the image thumbnail or using the "Desktop" link below the thumbnail image.
The example shown here is from the Carnegie stage 22 human embryo histology slide (Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin). The cross-section is located at the level of the skull base and oral cavity. The region of interest is the developing cochlea within the cartilage of the developing temporal bone.
Hint - Open the virtual slide in a new tab beside this help page.
UNSW Students please note these are not the Histology and Pathology Virtual Slide Set (located here).

Permalink is shown at the bottom right of each image. Allows a permanent link to be created to the current image view. (More? how to use Permalink) |
Open the Virtual Slide
|
The actual virtual slide is shown on the left. The instructions are listed below the slide.
This example will select a region of interest (ROI) as the developing cochlea embedded within the cartilage of the future temporal bone. This slide is from the Carnegie stage 22 human embryo histology slide (Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin) located at the level of the skull base and oral cavity. | |||
1. Open the virtual slide - either by clicking the image thumbnail or using the "Desktop" link below the thumbnail image.
Hint - Open the virtual slide in a new tab beside this help page. |
Zoom to the Region of Interest
2. Zoom by using the navigation controls (or mouse wheel) and use the mouse to move to the region of interest (ROI). |
Click Permalink
3. Click the Permalink button to generate a specific URL link. |
Save the Link
4. Save the URL address as a bookmark. |
Alternative ways to save the URL:
- Link icon - Drag the link address to your desktop.
- Link text - Copy and paste the link into a document. http://embryology.med.unsw.edu.au/embryology/Slides/Embryo_Stages/Stage22/11/Stage22-11.html?zoom=5&lat=-4057.5&lon=6130&layers=B
- Wiki link - Make a wiki link on this Embryology site. Here is the code ([[http://embryology.med.unsw.edu.au/embryology/Slides/Embryo_Stages/Stage22/11/Stage22-11.html?zoom=5&lat=-4057.5&lon=6130&layers=B|Stage 22 Cochlea]]) and this is how the link looks [22 Cochlea]
[Stage 22 Cochlea] - This link shows an image of the [cochlea] within the cartilage of the developing temporal bone of a Carnegie stage 22 human embryo.
