Human Embryo Carnegie stage 11

This is a ventral view of the Week 4 embryo head, showing the stomodeum (stomatodeum or stomatodaeum) region with the floor of this region occupied by the degenerating buccopharyngeal membrane. Loss of buccopharyngeal membrane opens the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract to amniotic fluid for the remainder of development.

Carnegie stage 11 25 days, 20 somite pairs

Facts: Week 4, 23 - 26 days, 2.5 - 4.5 mm, Somite Number 13 - 20

View: This is a scanning EM ventral view of the embryo head.

Features: brain folds, heart, first pharyngeal arch, buccopharyngeal membrane
