Stratified Epithelia cartoon
This simplified cartoon shows the 3 different types of stratified epithelia in the body.
- non-keratinising stratified squamous epithelium.
- keratinising stratified squamous epithelium.
- transitional epithelium.
- identifies the different layers names and locations.
- key cell type keratinocytes.
- epithelial basal layer is the source of stem cells replacing the overlying cells.
- all epithelia are separated from an underlying connective tissue by a specialised extracellular matrix, the basement membrane.
