Introduction

This laboratory is an introduction to the earliest event in development, fertilization of the ovum (egg) by sperm. The key components covered are: meiosis, gonad histology, ovary, testes, menstral cycle, oocyte development (oogenesis), sperm development (spermatogenesis), sperm morphology/motility, fertilization. We will be using the program HyperCell available on Lab computers to work through the concepts of cell divison and fertilization.
