This lecture is an introduction to the weeks of development following implantation including: gastrulation, neural tube, somite, cardiovascular development. The intraembryonic spaces (coelom) and the primitive placenta (villi) also continue to develop. The key components covered are: bilaminar embryo, trilaminar embryo, yolk sac, amniotic cavity, chorionic cavity, connecting stalk, epiblast, hypoblast, ectoderm, endoderm, mesoderm, extraembryonic mesoderm, gastrulation, primitive streak, primitive pit, notochord.
The lecture slides and textbook alone contain enough information as an introduction to the subject for this level of study. If you are interested in further reading, I have also included below links to more detailed textbooks with further information and images. Please note this additional information is not necessarily examinable, but may be useful if you have not previously studied biology.

Laboratory 1 will introduce several online resources that will be used throughout the session. Listed Below are links to some of these resources.
Week 1 Notes These are not the notes that refer to the first week of this course, but the first week of development which will be covered over the first few weeks of this course.
Gamete Formation Laboratory 2 Introduction to Lab 2 using Hypercell.
Embryo Images Online These are scanning electron micrographs of early embryonic development. These images are not relevant to the first few weeks of lectures.
