The 2 main endocrine organs that can be seen in cross-sections of the carnegie stage 13/14 embryo are the early developing pituitary and thyroid gland. The site of the anterior pituitary is visible as Rathke's pouch. The developing Thyroid can be seen as a cluster of dark staining cells in the hypopharyngeal eminence.
