Introduction
Movies show two different 12 week fetus ultrasounds. In the first movie, the beginning of the movies shows localization of the fetal heart. This is then juxtaposed beside a doppler reading of the
heart. The fetal heart rate (in beats per minute, bpm) can be calculated by placing a marker at the start of one heart cycle through to the next, in this case 173 bpm.
Note the disturbance in the second half of the trace due to fetal movements. In the second movie, fetal heart rate is calculated as 141 bpm
(More? Notes- Fetal Heart Rate).

Comments

UNSW Embryology has many movies to show some of the dynamic changes that occur during embryonic development.
These have been grouped together on separate pages (listed in righthand menu) that can be also be opened from a pull down menu on each page.
Special thanks to Dr Andrew McLennan, Foetal Medicine Unit, Royal North Shore Hospital for original video materials.
There are additional 2D, 3D and Multiplanar ultrasound movies available from the listed ultrasound links on this page.
There also an about movies page which has technical details and terms listed.
Both Mac and PC computers require the Quicktime plug-in to be present in your browser or on your computer.
Internet users note that some of these movies are large and will take some time to download depending on your connection speed.
DVD users can find Quicktime on the DVD or the latest version can be downloaded from here Quicktime
