Histology

This is not an histology class, but integration of an understanding of tissue structure will help your understanding of the embryology. This is not intended to be included as a component of the current Practical class, do it if you are interested.

There is very little developmental histology avaiable online, though there are several excellent online histology sites showing adult tissues. A study of the adult tissues will also help your understanding of terminology and intermediate structures seen in the embryo.

On the Practical class computers are 2 histology programs. "Fabric of Life", which has an excellent coverage of female genital tract and ovary. "Neocortex" which has a good arrangement of labelling on its images.

Below are listed links to selected online Histology resources.

Blue Histology

Blue Histology (UWA) includes well written notes along with selected images.

Histology: Male genital tract | Female genital tract | Urinary tract

Selected Topics: Testes | Vas deferens (or ductus deferens) | Ovaries |

Virtual Microscope

Virtual Microscope that we use in the histology classes, has a Virtual slidebox by system, with descriptive notes for some of the slides. Look through some of the adult tissues of the embryological structures we have been studying.

Virtual Slidebox of Histology: Male genital tract | Female genital tract | Urinary tract

Selected developmental images: Fetal Testis (approx 22 Week) | Infant Ovary |

Male Genital Histology
