Laboratory 3 Labelled Images
This is the Labelled set of figures from the first Embryology Class (Lab 3) that relate to key concepts in
Fertilization and Early Development.
In Lab 3 you worked through images that took you through: fertilization, implantation (normal and abnormal),
development of fetal membranes and chambers, early placentation, the third week of development, the trilaminar embryo
and early embryo axis formation.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Images are locked and cannot be altered or printed.
Images can be opened, downloaded and viewed. Clicking on the small images in the table will open the large labelled images.

These are the labelled images from Lab 3 concepts in Fertilization and Early Development.
Note that it is more important to understand the processes that are occurring in early development rather than specifically
identify each and every structure.
We began with the generation of gametes (egg and sperm) in gonads (ovary and testes), their
coming together in the complex act of ferilization and the formation of the first cell, the zygote and
it development in the first 2 weeks including the process of implantation.
